The Company Leaders Institute Quite A Few Programs In Order To Lower The Costs Associated With Poor Employee Work Performance

Christine is a sixty-four-year-old woman who is the top administrator in the human resources department at a large copper molding company. In order to lessen the costs correlated with excessive sick days, increasing absenteeism, employee alcoholism and alcohol abuse, poor employee work performance, and work related injuries, Christine and the other VIPs implemented several programs that made the work environment significantly more productive, healthy, and safe.

As an illustration, fourteen years ago Christine and the other company administrators put into operation an Employee's Assistance Program so that all the employees had access to quality therapy for their personal problems that could negatively affect their work performance, personal well being, and their health.

As another illustration, about eight-and-a-half years ago Christine and the other company leaders built a state-of-the-art exercise and workout room complete with mirrors, exercise charts, many different types of exercise equipment, scales, a professional trainer during business hours, and weights.

As another illustration, nearly two years ago, Christine and the other company administrators implemented a "Weight-Watchers" class that presently meets every weekday at 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Furthermore, the company leaders hired a weight-loss nurse to oversee the program.

In the last ten months, in conjunction with the Employee's Assistance Program, Christine and the other company executives instituted an "Anger Management" class for employees who want to learn how to better cope with their anger issues.

In the last three-and-a-half months, Christine and the other company administrators implemented an alcohol and drug testing program that is tied into their drug and alcohol abuse prevention program. In point of fact, Christine is the main individual in the company responsible for getting the message out to all the workers about the drug and alcohol testing program as well as the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program.

Another fairly recent enhancement to the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program is a class entitled "Alcohol Statistics and Facts." The rationale behind this alcohol statistics facts class is that many people fail to recognize the total impact of the effects of alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency without first getting exposed to some of the alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency facts and statistics that are available. As a consequence, one of the goals of this class is to provide a range of alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse facts and statistics in order to help employees gain a better understanding of the multitude of difficulties that are related to hazardous and excessive drinking and how they can stop these difficulties from happening.

Most recently, Christine and the other members of top management, by way of feedback from employees, initiated a class that focuses directly on severe drinking entitled "What is Alcoholism"? This class meets every Tuesday morning an hour-and-a-half before work and focuses for the most part on the differences between alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency, on some of the key differences between statistics on alcohol abuse and statistics on alcoholism, and on the kinds of therapy that are available for people who have alcohol drinking problems such as individuals who drink in an excessive manner.

Even though every one of these health and preventative maintenance programs was not inexpensive, the VIPs reason that they are many thousands of dollars ahead by providing all of their employees with a healthy, more productive, and safe work environment.
